Sports Medicine Users Workshop- Dynamometer and Balance Assessment

As research continues to demonstrate the potential long term impact of concussion in sports, the importance of objective assessment in the management of concussion has become vital. Rod Walters, DA, ATC, well-known lecturer, author and athletic trainer on the professional and collegiate level, will be presenting practices related to current research in concussion prevention and management.  Bill Galway will lecture and demonstrate current concepts of isokinetic exercise and appropriate clinical applications to attendees.

Educational materials will be presented in a didactic and visual environment to enhance the attendees’ knowledge base. 

Educational objectives:

Therapeutic Exercise and Isokinetics 101 

  • Learn how to use each mode of operation.
  • Learn how each mode of the is used in rehabilitation.
  • Learn how to set patients up in the correct biomechanical positions.
  • Understand how to use data to develop the best treatment plans.
  • Learn the best way to assess & treat patients.

Hamstring Protocol 

  • Summarize the physiological response of healing to hamstring strains.
  • Discuss the incidence of hamstring strains and the resulting influence on sport participation.
  • Discuss the importance to assess lengthened-state hamstring muscle for weakness.
  • Design and implement a rehabilitation/prevention program consistent with prevention techniques for hamstring muscles.

Target audience:  This workshop is intended for healthcare providers including physicians, physical therapists, athletic trainers, registered nurses, medical assistants, and cast techs.

This 3.0 hour workshop will include an evidenced based approach to several sports medicine topics.
