SEMINAR SCHEDULE
Univ of Southern Mississippi EBP Sports Medicine Workshop: Assessment of Hamstring Injuries-Treatment Strategies; Emergency Action Plans; and Medical Services
Univ of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, MS
This 6 hour workshop will include an evidenced based approach to assessment and treatment of hamstring injuries (3 hours) and Evidence-Based EAP for Safer Sports (1.5 hours) and Evidence-Based Provision of Medical Services for Collegiate and HS Programs (1.5 hours).   The identification of these injuries and the appropriate treatment to prevent reinjury is a clinical challenge.  There will also be discussions of both emergency action plans and appropriate medical services for collegiate and scholastic healthcare programs.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations received at least seven working days before the seminar are refundable less a $25 administrative charge per registrant. There is no refund for cancellations received later; however, a credit will be issued toward a future seminar. note that if you register and do not attend, you are still liable for full payment. 

At the conclusion of the program, participants will be able to:

  1. Summarize the physiological response of healing to hamstring strains
  2. Discuss the incidence of hamstring strains and the resulting influence on sport participation
  3. Assess lengthened-state hamstring muscle for weakness
  4. Design a rehabilitation/prevention program in consistent with prevention techniques for hamstring muscles
  5. Identify components of the emergency action plan
  6. Write a venue specific emergency action plan
  7. Consider job descriptions and review process of medical personnell in collegiate and scholastic settings
  8. Understand best practices for event coverage, assessment, and rehabilitation

Casting and Splinting Workshop (Private Event)

Educational objectives:
  • To understand and apply the basic techniques for casting and splinting. 
  • Understand the basic materials involved in casts and splints. 
  • Differentiate between casts and splints.
  • Understand the indications for cast vs. splint.
  • Understand the proper way to mold a cast or splint.
  • Understand proper cast removal.
  • Review cast and splint care. 

Target audience:  This workshop is intended for healthcare providers including physicians, physical therapists, athletic trainers, registered nurses, medical assistants, and cast techs.

Schedule and format:  Lecture and associated lab.
